From Lou Rodolico, University City Fire Safe Council president: Join us at the North University City Library, on Saturday, September 14, 3:30 PM to learn how Fire Hardening Your Home Will Increase Its Value and Help With The Sale Of Your Home.
- We will discuss some of the factors that affect insurance risk: for example, distance to fire station, distance to canyon or wildland, distance to fire hydrant, condition(age) of hydrants, regional road system, flammable materials on outside of house, proximity of plants to house, proximity of houses to each other & house vents.
- We will also discuss our community’s fire history including the 2003 $50 million arson Crossroads Fire and the 2003 Cedar Fire driven by Santa Ana winds. Both fires affected or endangered University City.
- We will also review the State of California Catastrophic Modeling Insurance Regulation which is in our future. Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara recently announced the next phase of Sustainable Insurance Strategy to safeguard Californians’ access to insurance.
The Fire Safe Council will host a public meeting on Saturday, September 14, at 3:30 PM, at the North University Community Library on Judicial. Learn about risks associated with living in an area surrounded by canyons, how vegetation around the home affects fire risk, and how to maintain access for first responders and their vehicles.
At the end of the presentation, the Fire Safe Council will have 10-year smoke detectors available for those who wish to get a new smoke detector. First come first serve on the smoke detectors. People must sign in for a smoke detector beginning at 3:15 and stay for the presentation.
This University City Fire Safe Council presentation is made possible, in part, with support from the San Diego Regional Fire Foundation, SDGE, the Fire Safe Council of San Diego County, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, and the San Diego Regional Disaster Fund.
Please join us: Saturday, September 14, from 3:15 and 5 PM at the North University Community Library, 8820 Judicial Dr, San Diego, CA 92122.
