UCCA president Jemma Samala and UCPG chair Chris Nielsen were among many city and community leaders who attended the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for Torrey Pines Fire Station 52. This new fire station is one of three in the University City area.

City unveils new $22 million fire station and city’s first electric engine in Torrey Pines. Fire Station 52, located on the northwest end of the UC San Diego campus, was built on land donated by the university. The $2.1 million Pierce Volterra fire engine has a backup diesel engine that kicks in when the battery runs out of power. Torrey Pines Fire Station 52 — first envisioned more than a decade ago by city and university leaders — was officially opened on Thursday and will be home to the city’s first electric fire engine.
