My staff and I had lots of fun at the UCCA Tree and Menorah lighting event. Thank you to all of the local residents that came out to enjoy the crafts food and festivities as well as the event organizers.
December was an eventful month at City Hall. I am proud to announce that I was unanimously reelected by my peers to continue to serve as the Council President for another year through the remainder of my term in office. A notable piece of legislation that was approved by the Council on December 15th was the Climate Action Plan. The plan outlined goals for the City to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions over the next twenty years some of which include transitioning to 100% renewable energy, becoming a zero waste City and increasing transit use, bicycling and walking in priority areas.
A Scoping Meeting for the Environmental Impact Report being prepared by City staff as a part of the process for updating the transportation section of the University Community Plan was held December 16th at the Nobel Recreation Center. Approximately 80 members of the public were in attendance, which is a great turn out! Let’s keep this level of engagement going through the remainder of the process.
I am excited to welcome the Fire Department’s new Fast Response Squad being set up at the west end of Governor Drive between Regents Road and Stresemann Street. This has been in the works over the past year and we all expect that it will improve emergency response times in the neighborhoods along Governor Drive.
A newly proposed Fire Station at the intersection of Nobel Drive and Shoreline Drive is moving forward through approval process and is expected to come to the University Community Planning Group in February or March for the group’s input and approval.
Please express your appreciation to the City Fire-Rescue emergency response teams that have been working to protect our safety in the recent dangerous storm conditions making dozens of water rescues. With more anticipated storm events on the way this winter season make sure you do your part to be prepared and avoid dangerous flooded areas. On that note, please report any damage from storm events, such as potholes, to our office.
