Troop 11 will celebrate their 100th year as a chartered Boy Scout Troop this year. Though some records have been lost over the years, it is assured that thousands of boys have actively participated and grown up in Troop 11. That’s 100 years of camping, hiking, canoes, tents, campfires, community projects and friendship.

The first Boy Scout Troops were established in the United States in 1910 and founded by Robert Baden-Powell, a Lieutenant General in the British Army. In 1906, Powell penned a book for boys about reconnaissance and scouting, called Scouting for Boys.

The intent was to support young people in their physical, mental and spiritual development so that they play constructive roles in society. Today, many of the original practices are still employed to educate boys in basic woodworking, survival, exploration and most importantly civic duty.

If you are a former member of Troop 11 or related family, Troop 11 invites you to share your stories and experiences with the current Scouts on February 20, from 1-4 PM at the First Baptist Church, 5055 Governor Drive, University City.

Former scouts and family are urged to bring pictures, old uniforms, memorabilia or simply your memories. Those who would like to join in should contact Mary Ricci by email 100YearsforTroop11@gmail.com.
