From Captain Hanten’s weekly email to his citizen’s advisory board:
“On August 15, a vehicle was broken into while parked at the UTC mall. Some expensive tools were stolen. The victim kept checking on Craigslist ad postings and a few days later the victim saw one of his items posted for $200, its value is $2300.00. A meeting was arranged with SDPD and the seller from Craigslist. The victim recovered his property. The seller had purchased the item at a swap meet, unknowing they were stolen. This is an example of how fast property can exchange hands. Reminder, leave nothing of value visible in your car.
Did you know that tents are not allowed on the beaches? They provide the opportunity to hide alcohol, weapons and assaults, all out of view of police or lifeguards. Shelters can only have three sides, so the view is unobstructed into the closure.”
Keep your eyes open for new Neighborhood Watch signs. There are still many streets without captains; if you don’t see a sign on a street near you, please contact me with the name of someone on that street who you feel would fit into the neighborhood watch loop.
UCCA meeting reminder: Wednesday, September 9 from 6:00-8:00 PM at our Governor Dr. library. We will have a special 15 minute presentation from Officer Holly Tafoya and police dispatcher Carl Radar beginning by 6:30 PM. Find out how to be more effective as a caller to the non-emergency number 619-531-2000.
Stay safe, look, lock and report.
