Motorists will be detoured because of planned overnight closures of Interstate 5 at Genesee Avenue Sunday August 2 thru Sunday August 9.
Closures: As construction on the Interstate 5 (I-5)/Genesee Avenue Interchange Project continues, motorists can expect overnight closures of all lanes on I-5 between Sorrento Valley Road and just south of Genesee Avenue. Lane closures will occur between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., per the schedule below:
• Southbound I-5: Sunday – Tuesday, August 2 – 4
• Northbound I-5: Tuesday – Thursday, August 4 – 6 and Sunday, August 9
Northbound and southbound I-5 will not be closed concurrently. Please note construction schedules are subject to change. Please view the graphic for details.
These closures are required to install falsework, which are temporary wood forms used to support the foundation of the new I-5/Genesee Avenue Bridge. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the interchange.
Detours: During the southbound I-5 closure, motorists using the State Route (SR) 56 local bypass attempting to take southbound I-5 will be detoured to southbound Interstate 805 then westbound State Route 52. Motorists are advised to use southbound I-5 rather than the SR 56 local bypass to avoid an additional detour. Signs will be placed to alert motorists in advance. Please view the graphic for details.
Additional Closures: Throughout August, construction will require intermittent overnight lane closures on I-5, Genesee Avenue, and the on- and off-ramps at the interchange.
