As shared at UCCA meeting, June 10, 2015.
Water Regulations: As you may know, in April, Governor Jerry Brown issued an executive order calling for a statewide 25 percent reduction in water use.
In May, each water agency throughout the state was assigned a final, individual target use-reduction goal based on several variables, including previous water conservation efforts. The City of San Diego was assigned 16 percent as its mandatory water use reduction target between June 1, 2015 and February 13, 2016.
So beginning this past Monday, June 1, the state-mandated 16 percent water use reduction began for the City of San Diego as a whole.
The 16 percent applies to the City as a whole; customers will not be tracked individually at this time. The best way for us to achieve this reduction target is through citywide reduction of outdoor irrigation.
The City is strongly urging San Diegans to water no more than two times per week, for no more than five minutes per day, with:
– Homes with street addresses ending in an ODD number watering on Sundays and Thursdays
– Homes with street addresses ending in an EVEN number watering Wednesdays and Saturdays.
– And apartments, condos and businesses watering Monday and Fridays
– Previous restrictions remain in effect, and enforcement of these restrictions by City staff may increase.
Budget: Council President Lightner announced that yesterday that the City Council voted unanimously to approve the City of San Diego Fiscal Year 2016 Proposed Budget.
The final approved budget provides increased funding for multiple departments, most notably public safety, including the addition of three Lifeguards for Windansea Beach and Pacific Beach. Also, three more Park Rangers will provide invaluable support to our police and lifeguards in addressing quality of life issues at parks and along our coastline.
Additional allocations for the Penny for the Arts Blueprint, which will benefit community events and programs throughout the city that receive funding from the Arts and Culture Commission,
An additional three hours are being added on Saturdays to the University Community Library for a total of 8.5 hours.
Swanson Pool: There were three closures in May due to feces contamination that took place after hours. Our office is working with the Park and Rec. staff that manages the pool along with the local PD to address this issue. Please keep an eye on the pool area after hours to help deter any suspicious activities.
The Council President will be attending the July 4th UCCC Celebration “Oh Say can U.C.”
