Access to reliable transportation, both public and private, is one of the keys to remaining independent and active. Two options for those 60 years and older include the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (SDMTS) and Jewish Family Service’s On The Go.
- SDMTS provides reduced fare on fixed–route buses and trolleys for those 60 years and older, disabled individuals and Medicare recipients. Reduced rates are available for both daily and monthly passes. MTS Access operates wheelchair lift-equipped buses which provide transportation to transit riders whose disabilities prevent them from using fixed route bus or trolley services. For more information about access and services, visit the SDMTS Trip Planner page at www.sdmts.com/.
- On the Go consists of five components: On the Go Excursions (organized outings to locations throughout San Diego County), On the Go Shuttles (group transportation to shopping centers, lunch destinations, and other cultural outings), Rides & Smiles® (volunteer drivers provide individual transportation services), On the Go Silver (accommodates individual riders for personal errands and large groups for customized outings), and Taxi Scrip (for transportation requests that cannot be fulfilled with On the Go drivers/vehicles. For more information about planning your next trip, visit the On the Go page at www.jfssd.org/.
