Feedback from the Interactive Survey will help guide neighborhood growth for the next 30 years. From the San Diego Communications Office: The City of San Diego is asking University City community and surrounding-area residents, employees, business owners and other stakeholders to give their opinions through an interactive survey that will guide the development and growth of the area for decades to come.
The City launched the survey at https://www.planuniversity.org/engage this month as part of the University Community Plan Update (CPU) process. The CPU will eventually replace the community plan approved in 1987 and seeks to promote growth by adding density through infill development, balancing jobs and housing, and meeting climate action goals. The plan will also provide the framework to support trolley lines, bus and bike lanes, create the capacity for different housing options, and support existing industry and job sectors.
The survey features questions regarding desired land-use options in five focus areas, all with the vision of supporting mixed uses such as housing and businesses. Community members can explore details, imagery and impact outcomes for each option and provide their recommendations and preferred options. Videos also give more information on each focus area.
“We’re excited to give the public a chance to truly visualize what the future of the University Community Planning Area could look like and to give us their input on that vision,” said Mike Hansen, the City’s Planning Director. “University City continues to expand as one of the region’s primary employment areas. Gathering public input is crucial to promote that growth in a way that creates an enjoyable and thriving community for all.”
The survey will close on Oct. 31, 2021, and results will be shared at a future Community Plan Update Subcommittee meeting. Along with several in-person outreach events, staff will also hold two virtual open houses about the CPU on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m., and Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
City staff began work on the CPU in 2018 and have conducted community outreach and stakeholder engagement for the past several years. The CPU is expected to go to City Council for approval in 2023. For more information, visit https://www.planuniversity.org/
