Westfield struggling to get San Diego’s reimbursement for $16M UTC transit center

From the Union Tribune, DAVID GARRICK, OCT. 3, 2019: Westfield Corp. is struggling to get a $4 million reimbursement from San Diego for the $16.5 million transit center [on Genesee Avenue north of Nobel Drive] built in conjunction with the expansion and renovation of UTC Mall. The transit center, which now serves nearly a dozen bus lines, will be the terminus of a new trolley line connecting Old Town and La Jolla that is scheduled to begin operating in 2021.

A cost-sharing agreement for construction of the transit center, which concluded in 2017, stipulated that $4 million would come from the city and $4.2 million would come from the San Diego Association of Governments, a regional planning agency.
