From SANDAG:
As part of the Mid-Coast Trolley Project, San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) will be removing an existing, de-energized gas pipeline to make way for construction of the trolley tracks. To accommodate this work, nightly closures of La Jolla Colony Drive from Rosenda Court to the I-5/La Jolla Colony Drive-Gilman Drive off-ramp will be in place November 13 to November 17 and November 19 to November 22.
Detour routes will be in effect; please use the I-5 Nobel Drive exit to detour the work area.
Closure and work hours are scheduled from:
- November 13 through November 17, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
- November 19 through November 22, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
Please note, construction schedules may change with very little notice. Crews will minimize impacts to residents as much as possible.
Major construction and closures are planned over the next several months. Access real-time traffic information through any of these resources: 511SD, Shift San Diego, Caltrans QuickMap, WAZE, or Google Maps.
We appreciate your patience while we complete this regional transportation project.
Learn more about the Gilman Drive Bridge project
SANDAG, in partnership with UC San Diego and Caltrans, is constructing a new bridge over I-5 at Gilman Drive, just north of the La Jolla Village Drive interchange. The bridge and related roadway improvements will connect Gilman Drive to the west and Medical Center Drive to the east, providing a vital link between the west and east campuses of UC San Diego. This project is being constructed concurrent with the Mid-Coast Trolley project. SANDAG is coordinating closely between the two projects to ensure smooth construction and effective use of space and resources. The bridge is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2019.
