University Community Library on Governor announces November 2017 programming

Library Holiday Closures: Thursday and Friday, November 10 and 11 for Veteran’s Day; Thursday, November 23 for Thanksgiving Day

Programming for Adults

  • Concert: Circle of Jazz is an energetic ensemble, flexible in size and repertoire. Jazz bassist and arranger Doug Walker leads the band and tailors the music to fit any occasion. Originally from Sacramento, California, Walker has called San Diego home since 2001. He holds a Master degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University, having studied under renowned bassist Gunnar Biggs and Bob Magnusson, as well as pianist and composers Rick Helzer and Richard Thompson. Wednesday, November 1 @ 6:30 p.m.
  • Adult Writers’ Group: Meet with other beginning writers in a supportive environment—share your writing, positively critique others’ work and hear from guest writers. Thursday, November 2 @ 1:30 p.m.
  • University City Community Association: This is a community meeting featuring updates from law enforcement, fire-rescue service, legislative and other community leaders. All are welcome. Wednesday, November 8 @ 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Computer Class: Space is limited, please call (858)552-1655 to RSVP. Monday, November 13 @ 10:30 a.m.
  • UC Book Club will be discussing Out Stealing Horses by Per Peterson. Wednesday, November 15 @ 2:00 p.m.
  • Jewelry Making: Take home something you made yourself! Make your own earrings and/or other pieces of jewelry with an experienced crafter. Space is limited, please call (858)552-1655 to RSVP. Friday, November 17 @ 10:00 a.m. & Noon.
  • Accordion Club meets the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All are welcome! Saturday, November 25 @ 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Programming for Children

  • Join us for Preschool Storytime for Kids; stories, crafts, finger plays and songs. Every Thursday @ 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
  • A Makerspace Craft Station is available in the Children’s Area with a different craft each week. All week long (Monday – Saturday).

Programming for Tweens/Teens 

  • Video Game Fridays, Wii gaming with your friends, Get your game on! Every Friday @ 3:00 p.m.
  • ThoughtSTEM is back again with coding for kids. This time the kids will use Scratch to create a space shooter game. Kids new to coding are welcomed. Age 7 and up, space is limited, please call (858)552-1655 to RSVP. Tuesday, November 7 @ 4:00 p.m.
  • Challenge Island will take us to Egg Drop Cliff. On this island destination, kids will learn about the Mermaid’s Purse and create their own version of Egg Protector that includes a parachute to protect their tribal egg. The goal is to drop the egg without it breaking or cracking. Wednesday, November 8 @ 2:00 p.m.
