The final PEIR (Program Environmental Impact Report) conducted as a result of the proposed plan amendment to remove the Regents Road Bridge and the Genesee Widening projects was published on October 10 and can be found on the following website www.sandiego.gov/planning/programs/ceqa and at https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/ucp_amendment_final_peir.pdf
Included in this voluminous document are the responses of nearly 200 responding organizations and individuals.
The recommendation included in this report is to give consideration to building a tunnel on Genesee under Governor Drive and to widen Genesee to six lanes by narrowing lanes where possible.
On October 27, the University Community Plan Amendment was presented to the Planning Commission for public hearing and recommendation. The vote was 6 to 0 to eliminate the below grade (tunnel on Genesee going under Governor Drive); eliminate the idea of adding lanes to Genesee by reducing medians and removing trees; and keep the Regents Road Bridge option in the Community Plan.
There will be two other opportunities for public input.
- Wednesday, November 16, 2:00 PM – Smart Growth/Land Use Committee
- Monday, December 5, 2:00 PM – The City Council is expected to hear any further evidence and rule/vote on the amendment.
The meetings will be convened at 202 “C” Street, 12th Floor, downtown San Diego.
Residents can also provide input by contacting City Council members before the December 5 City Council vote.
