Save the Date: Here’s the January 2024 Short List of University City community News and Events -

Happy New Year University City! Let’s volunteer together to make 2024 the best year ever. Although UCCA will not publish a print newsletter in January, we will host a public meeting at the Library on Governor on Wednesday, January 10. Networking will begin at 5:15 p.m. The formal meeting takes place from 5:30 to 7:30. When available, the January 10 agenda will be posted at: universitycitynews.org/category/ucca-meeting/

Meanwhile, we will continue to update our news and social media sites with news and features. We also plan to send out periodic emails to our UCCA member email list. There are several ways to stay in touch with the volunteers who make up University City Community Association; take a look at the list at the end of this post.

While we were celebrating the winter holidays, the City has released the draft Land Development Code and the draft Mobility Master Plan.

⇒ The City Planning Department has released the draft 2024 Land Development Code (LDC) Update list.

The LDC is a part of the San Diego Municipal Code and includes the regulations for developing and using property within the City.
The 2024 LDC Update contains 92 items. There are 65 Citywide amendments and 27 Downtown amendments.
Public comment on the Draft Amendments is now open. Dates for the public workshops will be released in January 2024.

⇒ The City has released the draft Mobility Master Plan. The plan lays out grand aims and sets priorities for neighborhood projects; it faces criticism for not prioritizing the city’s most car-dependent areas, and for lacking benchmarks to measure progress toward climate goals.

Saturday, January 6, 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Age Well, Drive Smart: As the California Highway Patrol states “Driving is Freedom.” Keeping that freedom as we get older is the focus of the ‘Age Well, Drive Smart’ program. Join the California Highway Patrol (CHP) on Saturday, January 6, for this free class for those ages 65 and older.
