From UCCA’s president Diane Ahern: Hello University City neighbors, I trust you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving and hope you found much to be thankful for.
As Thanksgiving came and went and we moved into December and the Winter holidays, I was reminded of Giving Tuesday. Did you know that Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good? Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, to collaborate, and to celebrate generosity.
Here in University City, many of us give back to our community every day; it might be some of our time, a donation, or the power of our voice in our local University City community. It’s a simple idea: every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to contribute toward building the better world we all want to live in whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help.
This month I’m asking you to consider UCCA when you make a donation or volunteer your time. Our volunteers work hard to support many of the local events and projects in University City that help to make our community more than just a neighborhood.
This past year, the paper and print costs for our print newsletter have increased to the point where our advertising revenue no longer covers the cost of paper and printing. Because of this increased cost, the price of advertising will increase next year.
To help UCCA offset the increased cost, I’m asking everyone who reads the newsletter to please join UCCA for the 2023 membership year. If you have already renewed your membership for 2023, then I ask you to consider a separate donation. Join UCCA Today! https://www.universitycitynews.org/join-ucca-today/
Not sure how your membership dues help? Read this newsletter to find out. Our University City News newsletter is the only source of hyperlocal news in University City. You’ll find news here that you won’t find anywhere else. This month, we feature the upcoming Holiday Celebration at Standley Park on Friday, December 9. Details at: https://www.universitycitynews.org/2022/11/17/fri-dec-9-save-the-date-for-dinner-with-santa-and-the-holiday-celebration-with-menorah-and-tree-lighting/
We also have news about upcoming Pure Water pipeline construction and new City Council and State Senate representatives. We highlight accomplishments of neighbors and provide summaries of planning group and community meetings. We share holiday safety tips and events reminders. UCCA provides a forum where residents can share news and information.
Your membership dues and the revenue provided by our loyal advertisers help to make our print newsletter possible. I thank you all.
Speaking of advertisers – if you work with or represent a company that does business with University City residents, please share this issue with them and ask them to support University City by advertising in an upcoming issue.
UCCA will not host a formal public meeting in December; please save the date for our January 11 meeting.
This month, we invite all to join us at the Holiday Celebration on Friday, December 9, for Dinner with Santa, arts & crafts, holiday music, Christmas Tree and Hanukkah Menorah Lighting and a visit from Santa Claus.
