From the Discovery Channel: Welcome to the Front Lines of CAL FIRE. The 2020 wildfire season in California has been the worst in state history. More than 4.1 million acres have burned, 9,400 homes and structures have been destroyed, and 33 lives have been lost. The men and women fighting on the frontlines are true heroes and now, Discovery Channel, in partnership with CAL Fire is bringing their battle against life-threatening blazes to viewers at home in a new series, CAL FIRE premiering Sunday, January 3 at 10 PM ET/PT.

The camera crews spent months implanted with CAL FIRE’s front-line firefighters. Traveling from Shasta in the north, to San Diego in the south, it was an assignment like no other. The camera crews wore cutting-edge fire-resistant helmet cameras to bring viewers into the field. These media professionals had to undergo “Red Flag” training and wear special protective gear to accompany the firefighters on the dangerous front lines.

The front lines of California’s most destructive wildfire season is truly a sight to behold. The new limited series, CAL FIRE on Discovery, follows the blazing path of destruction and heroic first responders of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire). Viewers will see, firsthand, the sacrifices that these heroes make and the destructive reality that they face. Through it all, these selfless Americans fight to protect the people of California and the state’s land from unrelenting deadly infernos.
