Q&A: Have you noticed the construction banners and trailers at Standley Middle School in University City? It’s Imagine UC 2020!

The day that many have been waiting for has finally arrived after six years of planning. Construction banners for Balfour Beatty and its construction office trailers are “mobilizing” in the Standley Middle School parking lot on Governor Drive. Balfour Beatty is well known in San Diego for its construction projects for San Diego Unified School District. This is positive indication that the long-awaited Imagine UC 2020 is about to get underway.

Joint-use improvements at Standley Middle School and Standley Park includes a new aquatic center, outdoor pavilion, and running/walking path. The new aquatic center includes an outdoor pool (35 meters x 25 yards) and pool amenities building, which provides outdoor showers, changing rooms, restrooms, storage and equipment rooms, and an office.

The outdoor pavilion will be a school and community gathering space integrated into the joint-use field. The decomposed granite walking track provides a loop around the perimeter of the joint-use field and adjacent Standley Community Park.

Today (September 15, 2020), UCCA was at Standley Park taking some “before” videos; available on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/universitycitycommunityassociation
