With the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions, UCCA has decided to issue and deliver a print version of the June 2020 newsletter as well as making it available online. Print versions will be distributed to homes in south University City this weekend by UCCA’s volunteers.

If you are not on one of our regular distribution routes, you may pick up a copy of the print newsletter beginning Friday at 4 PM, May 29, 2020, at the Library, the Laundromat, and the Recreation Center on Governor Drive. Since both the Library and Recreation Center buildings remain closed to the public, you’ll find the print copies outside the main parking lot entrance.

PDF versions of the June University City News newsletter are available now. Please note that the PDF version is compatible with most mobile and desktop devices. The FlipBook version displays best on a desktop or full laptop computer.

From UCCA President Barry Bernstein: It’s almost June, and the “gloom” is real. Although there’s been some phased in “re-opening” news, we must all remain vigilant. Wearing face coverings and maintaining “social-distancing” to support the containment recommendation of the virus is still essential. As most already know, the Standley Park 4th of July UC Celebration has been cancelled. Stay tuned for information about the Summer Concerts. They aren’t scheduled to begin until mid-July and we should have information in the July newsletter.

If and how our schools will be holding graduation events is still being discussed. UCCA has offered its help and support for our schools as they continue to discuss viable options. UCCA members have been receiving current “E-blasts” with up to date information related to various community/organization activities (another good reason for interested and involved University City residents to join UCCA.)

Our May Zoom meeting, featuring community leaders providing firsthand information of major events, was a great success. These virtual meetings are open to the public and take the place of our previously scheduled meetings at our library. Our June Zoom meeting will be on Wednesday, June 10, at 6 PM; please join us. Meeting information can be found below.

With 2020’s Mother’s Day and Memorial Day now in the past, and Father’s Day ahead, we are about to face the longer days of summer with longer natural hair and the realization that Zoom and Webinars are here to stay. We will continue to be hopeful for a return to what will be a new safe normal.

UCCA is very pleased to have been able to re-establish home deliveries of our newsletter, and wants to thank our many newsletter volunteers for their help. We have distributed over 100 of our “I Love University City” bandanas to our newsletter/Neighborhood Watch captains, and other volunteers as our token of appreciation and thanks for their personal commitment in keeping University City “more than just a neighborhood”. Stay well and stay safe. Happy Father’s Day!

UCCA Zoom MEETING June 10, 6 PM: The next UCCA meeting will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, June 10, starting at 6 PM, the regular monthly meeting time.  Since libraries are still closed, the meeting will be held via Zoom. To participate, join at us02web.zoom.us/j/4690121178. You may also go to zoom.com, and join meeting ID: 469 012 1178. And you can also call in at: 408.638.0968, 4690121178#. We hope to “see” you there!
