Community members working and living near MCAS Miramar airport may notice increased flight operations and experience increased evening noise as pilots participate in Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLPs). During Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP), pilots perform repetitive “touch and go” landings which simulate landing on an aircraft carrier. FCLP is required flight training that precedes carrier landing operations and simulates, as near as practicable, the conditions encountered during carrier landing operations. The skills required to complete carrier landings must be routinely practiced by pilots of all experience levels to maintain the requisite level of proficiency.
According to information released today through the Miramar Community Plans and Liaison Office, increased air operations and FCLPs are expected on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, June 18-20; and then next week Monday through at least Wednesday, June 24-26. Evening air operations could continue as late as midnight.
