According to MCAS Miramar media release, personnel aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar are scheduled to conduct an exercise designed to rehearse procedures in the case of a basewide lockdown beginning at approximately 10 a.m., January 8, 2019.
The exercise is an opportunity for Miramar personnel, family members, retirees and visitors to practice lockdown procedures in the case of a potential emergency.
All MCAS Miramar entry and exit gates are scheduled to be closed for a temporary period during the exercise. Members of the community may experience a slowing of traffic near MCAS Miramar at this time. Military police will monitor traffic and diligently work with local law enforcement to re-route and mitigate traffic-related issues outside the gates.
Military police will also restrict traffic flow on the base and personnel will be subject to military checkpoints during the exercise.
Local residents may hear announcements over the MCAS Miramar speaker system during the exercise.
