UCCA receives County grant for community public art projects

SD County Grant recipient: University City Community Association is proud to announce that we have been awarded a County grant to design and produce additional street banners for light poles on Governor Drive, Genesee Avenue and Regents Road. In addition, grant funds were received to beautify utility boxes in south University City.

The Neighborhood Reinvestment Program provides grant funds to County departments, public agencies, and to non-profit community organizations for one-time community, social, environmental, educational, cultural or recreational needs. The new banners and utility box art are a project under UCCA’s commitment to beautification of our University City community. UCCA thanks District Three Supervisor (and County Board Chair) Kristin Gaspar and the Board of Supervisors for their continuing support for University City.

Gullstrand Beautification Project: The next time you travel north on Gullstrand to visit the Tot Lot park at Cather and Florey, take a look at the updated AT&T utility box on Gullstrand at Governor and the boxes that are just south of Florey on Gullstrand.

In January, Neighbors Kathy Niess and Diane Ahern transformed these boxes as a salute to Spring and UC’s love for our pets. If you are interested in beautifying a utility box in your neighborhood, please contact UCCA through Barbara Gellman bggellman@yahoo.com and Merle Langston merlelangston1@gmail.com.
