The concerns of University City residents are being heard through UCCF/Improve UC board members who met with City officials several times to discuss the improvement of Marcy Park.
With the help of our Park and Recreation leadership, Johnny Chou and Roger Hughes, numerous cleanup details have been at work. Dead vegetation on both sides of the park was cleared, trees laced, animal nests removed and an unhappy rattlesnake relocated. In total, 4 forty-foot containers were filled with debris and hauled away! The park is looking healthy again and the work continues.
Funds that were raised will be replacing several lost trees, old trash cans and replacing the old drinking fountain with a dog friendly version. An additional park bench is also being considered for the entrance and soon the existing play equipment will be given a face-lift with new paint.
We are hopeful that the City will set aside funding for grading, drainage and new playground equipment for Marcy Park in the 2019 budget. It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we all work together!
