Press Release

A U.S. Air Force unit of B-1 Lancer military aircraft with 419th Flight Test Squadron will conduct a military funeral flyover in the vicinity of the Miramar National Cemetery Monday afternoon.

The flyover will honor former Air Force Lt. Col. William Brooks. Brooks served with the 572nd Bomb Squadron, 391st Bomb Group, 9th Air Force. His combat record included 54 missions over Europe from February to August 1944, including bombing enemy artillery positions in support of the D-Day landings and the subsequent Battle for Normandy.

Local residents and members of the surrounding areas around Miramar should not be surprised to see the military aircraft perform a low-level flyover.

The aircraft, based out of Edwards Air Force Base, California, is from the 412th Operations Group, 412th Test Wing, Air Force Materiel Command.
