BARBARA BRY: February message to University City

Courtesy of Barbara Bry, City Council, District 1:

I am honored to serve as your District 1 City Councilmember, and I look forward to working closely with the UCCA and the entire community to keep San Diego safe, clean and prosperous.

After being sworn into office in December, I was honored to be selected as chair of the Council Committee on Budget and Government Efficiency and vice chair of Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods.

Maintaining a balanced budget is central to our City’s ability to operate and serve the residents of San Diego, and I will encourage prudent fiscal decision-making as chair of this committee. Public safety is the number one function of local government, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on the Council and community members to advance a public safety agenda that will keep our neighborhoods safe.

A few of my priorities for the University City, UTC and UCSD areas include:

  • Ensuring the construction of the new fire station at Nobel is completed on time and on budget.
  • Finalizing an agreement with UCSD for a fire station on the north end of campus.
  • Monitoring the construction of the blue line trolley extension, and exploring an on-demand tram service and ride sharing programs to connect residents to the line.

We are launching a series of volunteer community advisory councils focused on public safety, seniors, and small business. For more information on these groups, please contact my office at barbarabry@sandiego.gov or call 619.236.6611.

I’m also pleased to tell you that I have recruited an excellent team to join me in working for the residents of District 1. Bridger Langfur will be the Council Representative serving University City, UTC, and UCSD. Please don’t hesitate to contact Bridger for assistance with city services at blangfur@sandiego.gov or call 619. 236.6611. I expect my staff to respond rapidly to constituent needs and to assist me in developing and implementing innovative policy plans.

My team and I will be out in the community attending meetings, holding office hours, meeting with residents at community coffees, and canvassing neighborhoods to learn about the priorities of District 1 residents. We will be hosting our first round of community office hours in University City on Saturday, February 11, from 1 – 2:30 PM at the University Community Library (4155 Governor Dr, San Diego, CA 92122). We hope you can attend!
