On December 12, I was sworn in as Councilmember for San Diego’s First Council District. Thank you for everything you have done to help me get here. You can watch a video of my inauguration online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=S3lPJ7U9WRI&app=desktop.

I will bring an enterprising and relentless mindset to addressing the challenges facing our city, and I remain committed to improving police recruitment and retention, expanding the innovation economy throughout the city, and increasing access to housing for all San Diegans.

After just one week, my team and I are already hard at work. On Monday, I was named chair of the Budget and Government Efficiency Committee and vice chair of the Committee on Public Safety and Livable Neighborhoods.

Maintaining a balanced budget is central to our City’s ability to operate and serve the residents of San Diego. I am eager to chair the Budget Committee and will encourage prudent fiscal decision-making in this role.

I am also honored to serve as vice chair of Public Safety. Public safety is the number one function of local government, and keeping our neighborhoods safe is my first priority.

Community participation is essential to both the budget process and advancing public safety, so I will work hard to ensure everyone’s voices are heard.

barbara-bry-city-council-staffI’d like to introduce my excellent City Council staff: Jamie Fox, Chief of Staff; Victoria Joes, Policy Director; Hilary Nemchik, Communications Director; Steve Hadley, Council Representative; Bridger Langfur, Council Representative; Mauricio Medina, Council Representative; Daniel Orloff, Council Representative; and Venessa Jackson, Executive Assistant.

My team and I will be out in the community attending meetings, holding office hours and community coffees, and canvassing neighborhoods to learn about the concerns of District 1 residents.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to my staff for assistance with any City services at https://www.sandiego.gov/citycouncil/cd1.

Also, please be sure to connect to my official Council Facebook https://www.facebook.com/BarbaraBryD1/ and Twitter https://twitter.com/barbarabryd1 to share your priorities and to stay up to date on the happenings of our office.

Happy holidays from Team BB, and I look forward to seeing you at our District 1 Victory Celebration in the new year!
