SDPD Chief Zimmerman: New Year’s Holiday Message

As posted on Nextdoor.com by Chief Shelley Zimmerman from San Diego Police Department:

chief-shelley-zimmermanHi, this is San Diego Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman. I want to wish all of you a very happy and safe New Year’s holiday weekend. As we bring 2016 to a close let’s not forget how important safety and security is to all of us.

There are no known credible threats to San Diego, however, we ask that you remain vigilant. Public safety is a shared responsibility. Remember, if you see something that is out of the ordinary, please don’t hesitate to say something.

We also need your help to prevent drunk driving. Help us by spreading the word to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Our police department will be out in full force to apprehend those who make the irresponsible decision to drive while they are intoxicated. DUI’s are 100% preventable. All it takes is a little planning to prevent the senseless loss of life we see each year over the New Year’s holiday.

As a reminder, it is a crime to fire off a gun in celebration of the New Year. This is extremely dangerous and the unintended consequences, if someone is injured or killed, will land you in jail.

I want to take this moment to thank each and every one of you and to ask for your continued partnership in keeping our City safe. By working together, we are making a positive difference in all of our neighborhoods.

Let’s all work together to make San Diego America’s safest city!

Thank you for your help, it is a privilege to be your Police Chief. Here is to a Happy and Safe New Year!

Shelley Zimmerman, Chief of Police, San Diego Police Department
