From SDPD Northern Division: Community Policing

Share

University City’s Neighborhood Watch Coordinator, Barbara Gellman, recently welcomed Captain Stephanie Rose to Northern Division and asked for her views on Community Policing.

captain-stephanie-rose(As laws change), our approach to law enforcement practices does not change in that we attempt to reduce violent crime through prevention, ie being visible, helping people identify target hardening measures and community policing. Community policing includes addressing quality of life issues identified by our communities.

How we do all of this is ever changing. Either because of changes in legislation or creative solutions developed through our partnerships with the community, public and private agencies, individuals, businesses and through empowering our officers.

(As a community, University City can support the police by continuing) what you are doing. It is amazing the involvement here in Northern Division. You are our eyes and ears. For our part we will continue to be there to listen so that we can both act on what you see and hear.

We know it takes a combined community and police effort to provide the safety our City deserves. We look for continued support of community policing efforts such as the Neighborhood Watch program, Safe Streets NOW, Retired Senior Volunteer Patrols and Citizen patrols.
