From San Diego Union Tribune, November 11, 2016:
University City prevails in slugfest with Orange Glen.
Centurions sophomore quarterback Casey Granfors threw for 321 yards and three scores and ran for a team-high 98 yards and two touchdowns.
In a game that featured offense in abundance, a late defensive stand proved crucial in a San Diego Section Division IV first round playoff game on Friday.
University City saw a one-time, 22-point lead dwindle to seven, and Orange Glen was driving. But an interception by Centurions sophomore Jayden Wickware ended the threat, and University City sealed a 49-35 win over the visiting Patriots with a 54-yard touchdown pass on the ensuing possession.
The eighth-seeded Centurions (6-5), who finished third in the City League, will play at No. 1 seed Southwest El Centro (8-2), the third-place team from the Imperial Valley League, in the quarterfinals Friday [November 18].
University City reached the quarters for the fourth straight season, and a win next week would match the Centurions’ high-water mark in the playoffs — a semifinal berth last season.
