Ginny Charvat remembered fondly by University City and UCCA

ginny-charvatUniversity City recently lost longtime volunteer and University City Community Association (UCCA) board member Virginia “Ginny” Charvat, who was devoted to our community for over 50 years.

She had moved to UC in 1962, where she raised three boys and was an active volunteer at six schools: Curie, Marston, Clairemont High School, Spreckels, Standley, and University City High School.

A proud “boys mom”, she co-founded UC Little League (she loved her Padres), was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and guided all three boys through catechism and first communion at Our Mother of Confidence Church, where she volunteered for over 50 years.

Ginny’s son Jeff remembers “she loved being a part of UCCA and was particularly proud of the art project where they painted all the electrical/service boxes.” She was also quite active in the Neighborhood Watch program, and was the UCCA treasurer until her illness prevented her from continuing in 2015.

Last month Ginny and her husband Jim celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

A memorial service in her honor is being planned for Saturday, October 8, 2 PM, at Our Mother of Confidence Church on Governor Drive at Regents Road. There will be a Mass followed by a Celebration of Life.
