Surprise Blood Drive this Saturday 7/16/16 at the Sprouts/Starbucks Marketplace.
Per the SD Blood Bank : “We are currently very short on blood and need the extra drive.” And, it appears, they’ve figured out that UC is a pretty good place.
As an FYI, it’s been 8+ weeks since our 4/16/16 Blood Drive and exactly 8 weeks (the minimum allowed to give blood) until our Sat 9/10/16 Blood Drive, so the timing fits perfectly, and you can easily donate at all 3.
Sooooooo, on Saturday, 7/16/16, we’ll have a UCUC San Diego Blood Bank Bloodmobile Blood Drive at the Sprouts/Starbucks Marketplace on Governor Drive from 8am – 1:30pm. You’ll find the Bloodmobile in the center of the parking lot.
If you know you’re coming, you can sign up at www.mysdbb.org. Spontaneous Blood Donors and Blood Buddies are always welcome and I recommend that you pop in between 11:30 AM to 1 PM, as that’s the time with the fewest reservations.
According to the official tallies, the 4/16/16 UCUC San Diego Blood Bank Blood Drive at the Sprouts/Starbucks Marketplace had 31 Donations, the 1/23/16 one had 39 Donations, the 10/31/15 one had 35 Donations, the 8/8/15 one had 39 Donations, the 4/11/15 one had 41 Donations, the 1/24/15 one had 43 Donations, and the 11/15/14 one had 31 Donations. This is, in technical terms, MOST EXCELLENT, as 27 is the general Bloodmobile Goal.
As a reminder, we usually have a couple people get turned away each Blood Drive for Iron Deficiency. So, keep eating your beans and greens in the days before you give blood. And if you’re sick or on antibiotics, skip this Blood Drive. Also, keep in mind that your body will temporarily be down a pint of life-giving liquid for about a day, and depending on your body size, that could be 20% of your total blood. So, drink lots of water before and after you give blood, stay cool, and relax, as your body replenishes with new blood.
And for your calendar-planning pleasure, the next UCUC San Diego Blood Bank Blood Drives at the Sprouts/Starbucks Marketplace will be on Sat 9/10/16, Sat 11/12/16, Sat 1/14/17, Sat 3/11/17, Sat 5/13/17, Sat 9/9/17, and Sat 11/4/17.
Thanks, enjoy, and all the best,
Ray the Bloodman
