Family Justice Center: assisting victims of family violence and their children

Lt Misty Cedrun Family Justice Domestic ViolenceLocated in downtown San Diego at 1122 Broadway, Suite 200, San Diego, CA 92101, the San Diego Family Justice Center (FJC) is a public safety initiative launched by the City of San Diego to assist victims of family violence. It was the first comprehensive “one-stop shop” in the nation for victims of family violence and their children. For the past two years, the FJC has been lead by SDPD Lieutenant Misty Cedrun.

Under one roof, more than twenty-five agencies have come together to provide consolidated and coordinated legal, social, and health services to women, men, children, and families in need. Victims of family violence can now come to one location to talk to an advocate, get a restraining order, plan for their safety, talk to a police officer, meet with a prosecutor, receive medical assistance, and receive information on shelter.

The San Diego Family Justice Center is a unique and safe place where victims of domestic violence are our highest priority. We are committed to providing victims and their children the help they need to break the cycle of family violence that so often damages and destroys families. We are here to help stop domestic violence in the families of San Diego County.

If you are in immediate danger, please call 911 or the San Diego Domestic Violence Hotline at (888) DV-LINKS (385-4657). If you would like more information about the San Diego Family Justice Center, call the Center’s toll-free Information Line at 1-866-933-HOPE (4673). The Center’s trained staff and volunteers can offer help, answer questions, or give you information about the resources available to you. Come to the San Diego Family Justice Center and find safety and support.

The public is invited to a monthly open house and tour of the Family Justice Center to learn more about the services provided. Family Justice Center tours are conducted on the third Wednesday of each month at 2 PM. To arrange a visit, contact Thelma Belen-Gonzalez at (619) 533-6020. Special requests for out-of-town visitors may be accommodated upon request.

Lt. Misty Cedrun recently recorded a public service announcement about the Family Justice Center.
