UCCA President Barry Bernstein: May message to University City

Share

Barry BernsteinHi Everyone…. April showers that bloom in May, and the El Nino affect didn’t quite make it all the way down to SoCal, but who is complaining!

FLASH! UCCA is very pleased to report that our application for the San Diego County “Neighborhood Reinvestment Program” grant was approved and we will be receiving funds to help with costs associated with our street banners.

It’s never too late to join UCCA…and for you to help support the efforts of our dedicated UCCA volunteers.

You will find a special candidates’ page in this month’s print newsletter, which we hope will be helpful in your voting decisions. This year’s June primary and the General Election November ballot have many important issues for all of us…not just in University City.

Padres are off to their customary slow start…and with the always dedicated fans, (like myself), hoping for a better season than last.

Genesee Ave continues its preparations for the trolley and access to UTC is problematic.

Preparations for the community 4th of July Celebration at Standley Park has started. Great live music, 5K run, Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast, the traditional bike and pet parade, interesting vendors, games, and local organizations will once again comprise the day’s activities.

If you’re interested in what is happening with the plans for Westfield UTC Mall expansion, don’t miss our May UCCA meeting…Mr. John Alderson, Westfield Vice-president, who is in charge of the project, will be our special guest presenter.

And don’t forget EdUCate’s Taste of the Triangle event on Friday, May 6. This year you can “bet” it will be more fun than ever.

Our next UCCA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11, 6 PM at our library…please come early for seating. The plans for UTC expansion draw large audiences.

Thank you for your continued support and interest, and remember, “University City is more than just a neighborhood”. ~ Barry
