Police apprehend burglary suspects with help from neighbors

Burglary Series Update for Northern Division courtesy of Officer Larry Hesselgesser, San Diego Police Department:

Larry HesselgesserHere at Northern Division I wanted to take some time to tell you how hard our officers and detectives have been working to keep things safe. We recently apprehended our third different burglary series suspects in a month, who have been responsible for multiple burglaries around Northern Division. As a result we are hoping to see a decline in residential burglaries in the coming months. This doesn’t mean we can let our guard down.

I am also happy to report that each of these suspects could not have been caught without the community working together with the police. Whether you sent me a suspicious video or photos or you called 9-1-1 because you were looking out for your neighbors and saw someone you did not recognize going into your neighbor’s home. We appreciate every one of those tips.

Thank you for making a difference and continue to remain vigilant. Unfortunately with scrap gold melting businesses everywhere, a lot of the jewelry being stolen is very hard to recover. If detectives have other property they can link to recent burglaries, they will contact you if you were a victim.

I can’t stress how important it is to secure jewelry you do not use on a regular basis. Burglars know where your good jewelry is generally kept. Burglars don’t have a lot of time so put your main jewelry in a less conspicuous place. If you have nice, expensive jewelry, family heirlooms etc, please consider securing them in a good safe that is bolted to the floor or put them in a safe deposit box.

Same goes for guns, please make sure they are secure and not easily taken during a burglary, where they can now be used to hurt someone.

If you see a crime in progress, call the police emergency number 9-1-1.

If you want to report suspicious activity or a non-emergency, call the police non-emergency number 619- 531-2000.
