University Community Library on Governor now open Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 6 PM!

Events for Adults/Seniors

UC Calendar Mar 2016_Page_1Qi Gong – Every Monday @ 9:30 – 11:30 AM (except for March 7). Qi Gong (Chi Gong) is a simple preventative health method of relaxing and harmonizing the body.

♫♫♫ Zumba for Special Needs and Beginners – Every Monday @ 1:00 – 2:00 PM (except for March 7). Led by Lis Garces (licensed Zumba® instructor since 2007),

Adult Yoga – Every Thursday @ 4:00 – 5:00 PM (except for March 3, book sale). Gentle exercises to aid flexibility and improve concentration. Bring your own mat or towel.

Chair Sit Yoga – Tuesday, March 1 & 15 @ 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Get fit where you sit! Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair or standing using a chair for support.

♫♫♫ Accordion Club – Saturday, March 12 & 26 @ 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM. All are welcome! Second and fourth Saturday of each month.

♫♫♫ Concert: SOL e MAR – Wednesday, March 2  @ 6:30 – 7:30 PM. A musical collective of Brazilian and Latin fusion with a modern approach featuring the Brazilian samba, Bossa Nova, R&B, salsa, merengue, hip hop and funk. Powerful percussion combines with select and authentic instrumentation and vocals, creating pulsating energy.

Friend of the Library Book Sale – Thursday., March 3 @ 1:00 PM to close;  Friday & Saturday, March 4 & 5 @ 9:30 AM to close. Come support your local library and purchase some books, DVD’s, and CD’s at the book sale.

UCCA University City Community Association – Wednesday, March 9, @ 6:00 – 7:30 PM. This is a community meeting featuring updates from law enforcement, fire-rescue service, legislative and other community leaders. All are welcome.

Online Security – Thursday, March 17 @ 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Brendan McHugh, from the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will talk about how to safely navigate the internet and how to avoid scams and other cybercrimes.

UC Book Club – Wednesday, March 23 @ 2:00 – 3:00 PM. The Book Club will be discussing, Girl in Translation, by Jean Kwok. When Kimberly Chang and her mother emigrate from Hong Kong to Brooklyn squalor, she quickly begins a secret double life: exceptional schoolgirl during the day, Chinatown sweatshop worker in the evenings.

Events for Children

Preschool StoryTime for Kids – Every Thursday @ 10:30 – 11:30 AM (except March 31). Join us for stories, crafts, finger plays and songs.

LIVE! Homework Help – Every Tuesday & Thursday @ 2:30 – 4:30 PM. A volunteer will be at the library to help with homework.

Makerspace Craft Station – All week long (Monday – Saturday). A craft station is available in the Children’s Area with a different craft each week.

Tales for Tails – Saturday, March 5 @ 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Children can read aloud to trained and certified therapy dogs. “Tales for Tails” is designed to help children improve their reading skills and confidence in reading out loud. Children age 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Amazing Dana Magic Show – Wednesday, March 16 @ 2:00 – 3:00 PM. Come join us for Amazing Dana and his laugh-out-loud magic show.

Events for Tweens/Teens

Kendama Club – Every Wednesday @ 1:30 – 2:30 PM. Test your skills against others, learn new tricks and just have FUN!!!

Video Game Fridays – Every Friday @ 3:00 – 4:00 PM (except March 4). Wii gaming with your friends, Get your game on!

Teen Tech Week: Robotics Demo – Monday, March 7 @ 3:00 – 4:00 PM. Enjoy the Green Griffins demonstration about robotics. Learn about building robots, how to drive robots, and how to join or start a robotics team of your own.

Teen Tech Week: LED Throwies – Tuesday, March 8 @ 3:00 – 4:00 PM. Teens join us and make LED Throwies, which is an inexpensive way to add color to any magnetic surface.

Teen Writing Club – Wednesday, March 9 @ 3:00 – 4:00 PM. Each month the Teen Writing Club will talk about different techniques for improving your writing for school or that novel you’re working on. If you have questions about a current project or an essay you’re working on, there’s always time after the session to ask questions.
