The holidays are coming! Thanksgiving is coming up soon! WOW! It’s going to be a blur between now and New Years Eve, but we will be doing all we can to help make the whole season as safe and fun as possible. We will be adding patrols to help with the growing number of shoplift crews that are rampant these days. We will also be working closely with Traffic Division to address the increase of driving under the influence cases we see during the holiday party season. Don’t hesitate to call 911 if you see a drunk driver on the road. Try to get a good vehicle description and license plate if possible…

Shop-With-A-COP will be held on December 5th and SDPD is the host agency. This is a great event that garners a tremendous amount of good will with the community.

The Quality of Life Team continues their efforts in patrolling around the Clairemont Library. The team recently arrested a male and a female with stay away orders from the library. These individuals are a chronic problem for the community with illegal lodging, leaving trash, and other quality of life issues.

The San Diego Police Department Traffic Division will be conducting its teen driver safety course aimed at educating teen drivers on drinking and driving. The Teen Alcohol Awareness Program or (T.A.A.P) is geared toward newly licensed teen drivers and teen drivers finishing high school. TAAP will pair police officers with teens and their parents in a classroom setting, much like other outreach programs, and educate them on the subject of impaired driving. TAAP takes the effort a step further and provides the teen participants with an in person experience at an active SDPD DUI checkpoint. Sign up for this program will be on a first come first-served basis. Classroom size is limited so please contact Officer McCullough (mmccullough@pd.sandiego.gov) as soon as possible to register.

The beach areas of Northern Division continue to be targets of approximately 30 bicycle thefts a month on average. Many times there are simple ways victims could’ve prevented the theft from occurring. Many times the victim does not even have the serial numbers written down.

Be alert people, the “bad guys” are still out there. For more information about Neighborhood Watch, visit https://www.universitycitynews.org/neighborhood-watch/.
